While there is a certain entropic inevitability to this, it does sound like the persona is surrendering with a dolorous whimper. "What's the point? Why delude ourselves?" The other view is that the negative entropy represented by detectable light, or perhaps the negative entropy represented by life, is actually not the aberration but the complement. Natural processes of the dark give rise to the light.
