I really liked this poem; I posted a response immediately after I'd read it...but it looks as though the computer ate it. Anyway, it didn't show up.
I thought the poem was very neat. I particularly liked the ending, the last two verses. And the contrast between Orpheus's voice, his presumed music, and the "pounding white noise waves."

Good question. I read it as being about Orpheus's failure to save Eurydice, or rather, about a poem about that. And how pissed off one would be if the commemorated moment of your life was one which you would rather forget. Reagan throwing up. Dean screaming. Cheney hunting lawyers. Especially if it came with some sort of moral...
However, my own association with the name Orpheus is the poem that starts: Orpheus with his lute made trees and the mountaintops that freeze bow to him when he did sing...
