Tricky. I'm not sure I would call it a poem. Flash fiction, perhaps; but a poem? Whatever it was, it was entertaining enough to read.

Thanks for the good words. I rather like this one myself. I'd call it a flash fiction, but I have no objection to it being published as a prose poem.

Whatever it is, I loved this one. Of course, it's longer than what I'm used to from Boston, but its vocabulary is much like what I see in his poems in Asimov's -- clever humor mixed with poignant insights.

"The Elongated Years" has many of the qualities that I enjoyed in Boston's free verse, but I wasn't distracted by seemingly arbitrary line breaks; punctuation, sentences, and paragraphs handle the pacing here, and it works.

As with "Ossuary," I'm grateful. Here is a prose poem instead of free verse, and there was a poem with rhyme and meter. It's almost as though my arguments made sense, and these poems were written and published in response. When I go to which doctor and have my head shrunk, I'm sure he'll convince me that this was not the case. Until then, I'll labor under this fantasy and enjoy the poems.

Without wishing to argue with the person who wrote it, I rather liked the idea that it was a poem with elongated lines ... Form mirroring content, and all that. Especially given the way the lines grew shorter towards the end.

It spoke truth to me. The dullness of going through the motions week in and week out can make 2 weeks seem like a day.
