Wow, that was a very good, creepy fairy story by Gavin Grant. I kept reading in spite of myself...

I like "Leviathan chasing Giant Squid." If that's not a real game, it should be.

Great story.

This one didn't really work for me, I'm afraid. Win some, lose some, I guess.

Very nice it is to have a story from Scotland. Seeing that the writer's from America, I'd like to know how he captured this country so well. There's a feel to Scotland and our fairies - for it's a Scottish kind of fairy story he's playing with - that's difficult to capture; it's often done heavy-handedly.

Also good to have such a treatment of homosexuality. So often now we have in fiction a token gay character from a pseudo-liberal writer, or a vague exploration of homosexual angst from an adolescent straight lass who clearly doesn't have a clue - I'm pleased to see the complexities and the attractions of it all portrayed, as well as the apprehension with which being gay is still viewed, despite all our claims otherwise in life and fiction.

The only thing about this story is that the style is perhaps just *too* wandering and abstract: the thread of the plot lost me occasionally. While the use of language was delicate and well-handled, sentences and paragraphs has a whole were sometimes confusing.

Gavin is, in fact, from Scotland. He just lives here now.

Thought this was a really strong story. Liked the psychological aspects (e.g., is the boy pursued by real tortuous faeries or is he troubled by his own emerging sexuality or is he afraid of his tormentors on the playground or all/none of these).

Thanks for keeping up with the challenging, diverse fiction here. Not every piece will work for everyone, but at least one can expect something different from SH.

I thought that this peice was facinating. I liked the images that fairy land evoked and the way that life on the playground was described and captured. Great read
