Dear Shweta, coming from a non-American culture myself, I particularly appreciated this story. Not only is it lovely in itself, transforming the motifs of satyagraha and of Shiva and Parvati's dance into the Sunbringers, but it also squarely (yet subtly) engages the theme of painful change and the Other. Shaya, brave but matter-of-fact, reminds me of characters in LeGuin's stories. I know this will be one of many tremendous stories from your well of inspiration.

I am a 69 year old Male American, with no exposure or understanding of Caste systems. But I thoroughly enjoyed this story!

Thank you all so much!
Athena, you are of course absolutely right about the motifs influencing this story, though I wasn't conscious of them while writing :)
danelk, in case you were wondering, my caste system is... impressionistic. It feels right to me, but it's not at all factually true to life.

This is breathtaking. I loved the view into caste system, which I admit I have only tidbit of knowledge of. And the richness of the tale was amazing. Well done!

I just wanted to say that the writing of this story was absolutely flawless--the prose itself was poetic, subtle, and finely crafted. It really managed to bring together literary sensibilities with an interesting & honestly told story. Lovely!
