i liked the previous story by Deborah Coates a lot- the one with the zeppelin, but this one with it's 'not-vampires' and 'not-zombies' just seems a bit pretentious. why not just call them zombies and werewolves, which is what they are, or else make up a different name for them? it's like drinking a glass of 'not-water' which looks and tastes like water and has the same chemical formula but if we call it 'not-water' it's somehow more mysterious and scary and unknown.
Personally, I don't think this story is very original- it reminds me of Buffy and Angel.
