Can I get some help in appreciating this story? It's got clever angles, but I kept thinking it would be fantastical, mythic, or scifi like most other stories on strange horizons. But it seems to be strictly a cultural tribute, crafted ambiguous nostalgia, sort of campy (come on, a stripper, a gypsy, etc). Not easy to read. Is it slipstream? Would it be too lowbrow to suggest that strange horizons could benefit from an editors comments link for the stories, especially a tricky pick like this one? Your staff is fun and knowledgable (i liked meta-reading the "plots we see too often" lists, fortunately they're not dogma). Anyway, I'd enjoy reading staff thoughts about why they pick a story.
