I really liked this one. It's lyrical but edgy.
The descriptions were perfect; I could visualize Phuket and the group smoking by the river and the elephant and the strange girl. Would have been more edgy if he'd accepted her seduction, though.
I appreciated that the allusion was made explicit. /Soapbox/ I have a problem with cultural allusions that provide no direct clues because the Internet is an international medium, and English an international language. If there's enough of a clue - as in the Paphos story - there's Google. Otherwise, it can be frustrating because there's something there but you don't know what. /End soapbox/
