A story about an underage runaway who has sex with almost every person he meets (save one, who wants to have sex with him), and then gets a well-paying job and finds true happiness... smoking dope.

If the author had spent less time on sex, he might have had room for some plot. What is an Other, really? And more importantly, what does the Other have to do with the story? What about that zombie terrorist attack his employers are planning? Does the hero have no ethical concerns at all?

No, he does not. All he cares about is sex and drugs. And that makes him the coolest guy on Titan, with the hottest, most famous girlfriend, and the respect and admiration of everyone.

You know, if we want to read self-indulgent porn, there are lots of places to find it on the internet. Could we have just one place for well-crafted stories, with actual plots, arcs, and characters who are more than blow-up sex dolls?

"By then I was a woman; on the outside at least."

I particularly liked this one: obviously, our protagonist must be a woman at heart. How else to explain why she's such a 'ho? All women are whores; all whores are women. Apparently, just because you're writing SciFi doesn't mean you can ignore the iron-clad cliches of conventionality.

Hmm. I was surprised to find this story on SH, but not in a bad way. It told me that SH is willing to stretch boundaries, to experiment, which is what I read it for. I doubt this would have showed up in a print publication.

That said, the story did seem like a framework for soft porn. The Kid is a bore. I suppose in real life he's have a really hot bod or something. Maybe this story would work better as a movie.

I didn't get the "Other" either. Some kind of intelligent parasite or symbiote that can't get high but likes to fuck???

It's a well-written story about someone I don't want to spend time with.

Some nice, simple fun with odd situations. Perhaps too easy, overall, but there's nothing wrong with pleasure.

Still, I think "The Infinite Monkeys Protocol" is stronger. ;)

Wouldn't have shown up in a print publication for good reason, I think. 'High Windows' is basically internet porn, given a veneer of respectability by a few characters who can actually be distinguished, and by the use of the pomo buzzword 'Other,' which turns out to have no significance in the story.

It may have been courageous for SH to publish 'High Windows,' but I doubt it took much courage for LT to write it. I found it thinly imagined, flaccidly written and altogether unstimulating.

Ironically speaking tell me is that possible? I mean a person who is going bersek and people are still adoring him? These are best read in stories and not so in the practical life. If one has a desire to get intimate with others then they should follow the proper custom for it, rather than taking things for granted.

This story is truly a work of sick self indulgent porn, dont have anything more to say, sure that it happens too in real life but I fond the protaganist extremely cold, nothing really showcases what he is feeling inside, just a series of event, the story is well writen but very cold and quite sick actually.

If you have never lived the life so can not understand the point of view of the author it would be hard to relate to the story. Personally when I am high and in need of sex I enjoy the company of [spam URL deleted by Jed].
