I was a little confused about who spun the scaly-jacks out: their captain, or Billy Grimm.
My only complaint seems to be the same one I have with all of this month's peices: where's the ending? Just one more paragraph to give us a clue to the protagonist's fate. Instead, we're left adrift on a boat in the middle of the ocean.
Sitll, it was a well-written piece with a clever device, and a wonderful storm-lashed ride.
