I enjoyed reading this story as, despite the fact it was a theme/storyline that seems to be quite often used, this was a well written treatment of it. Would perhaps have liked slightly more development of the protagonist.

I enjoyed it too in its simplicity. The theme is indeed well used and the end known almost from the first line, but the simplicity of the sentiment is univeral even architypical.
The only jarring note for me was that in the age of sail, no women actually served as crew on ocean trading vessels on earth, and the settings including names of ship and so on did not lead to visions of a future post-industrial less restrictive time or a non terran civilisation with other customs.

Thank you both for taking the time to read the story and to comment.
