Very clever and damn brilliant story. I love how the speculative elements slowly spring upon the reader. Terrific story.

Really well-written, yes. I liked the voice very much and ditto that the sneaky-but-steady increase in weirdness.

But--I did find some of what's implicit (and explicit) in the ending to be--upsetting enough to trump my enjoyment of the rest.

The Motrin killed me
      #3633 - Fri Jun 09 2006 12:41 PM

My favorite part of this story -- and there are oh, so many things to like -- was the Motrin. Within the story, it was cute and thoughtful. Structurally, it highlighted the escalating insanity by giving us a brief pause for something totally ordinary and mundane.

I'm ordinarily disappointed by stories like this where she gets back with him; it seemed like him doing her sister was more the straw that broke the camel's back rather than the sole reason for the breakup. (Well, maybe more like the anvil that broke the camel's back, but you get the idea.) They've been together a long time; by this point their relationship is what it is. Change isn't impossible, but it isn't likely either. But at the same time ...

Dude. He mailed his (functioning) dick and balls. Precisely how much more contrite can he get?

Excellent story. Well done, Mr. Schoffstall.

One of the best I've read on SH. I'm going to remember this for the polls.

Fantastic story, in every sense of the word. I've already read it twice and look forward to rereading it again many times. Clever AND emotionally powerful -- a difficult and rewarding combination!
