I enjoyed this piece a lot. I think I caught it in an ealier printing, but I loved the second time around even more.
I really loved the comparison of different societies/genders/marriages. The "standard" marriage. The homosexual marriage. The strong female choosing her own mate rather than accepting what is given to her. The person who chooses to be alone. The complex polyamourous marriage. Very well done and very wonderful.

I loved this story. I wonder if the author knows that the medieval French word for magic is gramayre? I look forward to reading other work by her.

Like the language she writes about, the tale wastes no words and tells the tale simply and without adornment; yet the topics covered are complex and thought-provoking.
Someone else who knew Ruth Berman. Wow. Haven't heard her name in ages....

This is a lovely story and I feel honored simply by having been given the chance to read it.

Glad you enjoyed it!
We reprinted that story as part of our author focus week on Eleanor Arnason, which also included a review of some of Eleanor's work by Ruth Berman.
