I zoomed over here this morning to read Stephanie Burgis's story because I enjoyed her previous SH story so much!
This reminded me of her story "Giant," which can be found over at Lone Star Stories--another fresh look at an old fairytale. Both stories had great emotional weight, but I most appreciated the absolute lucidity of the prose. Very nice!

I liked this story better than the other, earlier offering from Stephanie Burgis, but both are good.
However, this one didn't quite take it far enough, for me. I saw the beginning of a good Rapunzel take on Alzheimer's and then it just ended. Really think it could have been fleshed out and made truly great.

It is a good take on Rapunzel, but I don't think it is about Alzheimer's, more like repressed memories that have caused some acting out over the long years. So for me the ending was just right. It is the kind of thing you could build much longer stories on, but this one worked fine as it is.
