One of my favorite peices of Genre TV is the Prisoner, a series so quirky I find myself coming back to it again and agian, despite the very small number of episodes.
I am inclined to think that its very imperfection makes repeated viewing compulsery, I keep coming back just in case its resolved satisfactorily next time. By comparison the Truman Show, so much more effective in almost every way doesn't have quite the compulsion, even though Truman is undoubtedly inspired by the Prisoner.
Life on Mars from the BBC is excellent in many ways but at the end, (of only the second series-and surely that's enough for any idea) things are nailed down, again no need to revisit, the got it write.

Ah, Elder Scrolls. The £1000 game series - because every time Bethesda releases a new installment, I end up having to buy a new PC to play it.

Hey terryk,
I've watched a few episodes of The Prisoner but didn't have time to complete it. I wish I had the time to watch something like that more than once! And I'd heard a lot about Life on Mars but the first episode didn't grab me. Is it worth it?
Helen: when you put it that way, it's an expensive habit!

I began watching Numb3rs on DVD this summer. We're now into season 4 and I'm still watching. Sure the crime aspects are typical for TV, but I like the math applications and the characters.
But my favorite show on American TV is Avatar. It's the only show I HAVE to watch. Yes, it's a kids show, but there is a subtle complexity to the story line that inspires contemplation, ie: Machiavellian politics, not just in the Fire Nation, but in the Earth Kingdom as well, which contributes to its undoing. The underlying darkness depicted in the Puppetmaster episode chills and spurs the imagination. How far will Katara go in the final battle?
Unfortunately, I've read this is the last season. We'll see.
