I liked the remiscence in the article and thought it quite thought provoking. We do indeed learn about lifes possibilities through art and literature, for civilisation is a continuum, and most human beings dont have to learn everything human right from scratch. For myself I didnt discover SF till my 20s, but I still enjoyed/appreciated the fact that serious SF writers refer to sex and gender less exploitatively and often more exploratively than 'mainstream' writers. I too am a fan of Le Guin and Griffith, though as a man I find the latter a little scary with her vision of man free worlds.

However I was kind of sad that you didnt list your final 4 books kept from childhood

Oh, I meant four boxes, not four books; sorry I wan't more clear! The contents of those boxes would take far too long to list...
