My compliments on a fascinating and worthwhile piece. Far too much of the discussion of the book market (in and out of the genre) consists of vague claims by insiders, and speculations on the basis of casual, limited observation by all. This statistical approach (which I thought was quite accessible by the way)-despite all the necessary caveats-offered something more solid.

Still, it was interesting that the data can be taken to affirm the popular view that fantasy and horror have grown sharply, and that sequels are exploding relative to original or standalone books.
