I found this a very good article on some key aspects of story in gaming, particularly the relationship of narrative to gameplay, and the issue of characterization. These issues have quite a bit to do with the challenge of translating games into other media (novels, films, etc.), but haven't got nearly as much attention in the commentary on the issue as they merit.
