Wonderful, Greg. I found myself looking forward to when your next article would be published and I was not disappointed. While I am 'in the poetry trade' so to speak, your analyses and comments on the Rhysling winners not only speaks to poets or those who love poetry, but I feel that your article also has interest and value to anybody interested in spec fic of any type. Keep up the good work.

Another good analysis that helps to illuminate the quality in these poems and why they spoke to readers.

I think the formatting could be more effective if the poems appeared right in the body of the article, either before or after the discussion of each poem.

Regardless, I look forward to future installments.

We actually considered this when formatting the essays. However, Strange Horizons has no desire to hurt the sales of the SFPA's An Alchemy of Stars, and if we were to run the bulk of these poems indefinitely, we would be competing directly against their anthology. Consequently, after a limited period of time, the poems will be pulled from our archives.

Rather than disrupt the flow of the essays with blockquotes which would later be excised, we decided to run them as separate pages, peppering links throughout the essay as appropriate. The decision was mostly a technical one, though we do understand that it can be somewhat inconvenient for some of our readers.

We are, however, glad that you and other readers are enjoying these essays; we're quite proud to be running them.

Kyle,

Thanks for the response. Your point is a valid one that I hadn't thought of.

And thanks for running the articles.

If Greg finishes all of these, collected, they might make a good companion volume to Alchemy of Stars.

I will note only that Anne Eng, Steve's wife, has just recently given us permission to reprint "Storybooks and Treasure Maps." As a consequence, we have just linked it in to the article.

Enjoy!

That is the goal, Bruce. I went looking for such a volume and couldn't find one, so I decided to write one, a year at a time.

All the best,
Greg
