That is a breathtaking last sentence that devastatingly pays off the breathtaking first sentence.

I love selkie stories, even if it makes me a loser. ;) This was really sweet. I like stories that leave me wishing the characters well, like I've accompanied a friend to the train station and am watching them wave through the windows.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

This is just gorgeous. The aching refrain of "I hate selkie stories," and the build of the mother-daughter relationships that are barely seen but hold the structure of the story. I hope they make it to Colorado.

Quite possibly one of the most beautiful short stories I've ever read...I can empathize with the protagonists aching love for Mona as I've felt the same pain and yearning, as I'm sure many have...

I absolutely love this interweaving of myth and contemporary life - it's where my heart lies and you nail it so perfectly!
