We've added a few new names to the Strange Horizons Masthead recently, and I'd like to briefly introduce them:

At the start of the year, Sonya Taaffe joined us as a Poetry Editor, which is shame only in that it means we won't be publishing any more of her poems for a while. I'm greatly looking forward to seeing how the department develops with her on board (and suggest you check out her collection Singing Innocence and Experience for a good sampling of her work).

More recently, Shelly Simon has joined us as a Webmaster, bringing experience in graphics and multimedia design that will no doubt be invaluable as we look towards revamping the website later in the year.

And last week, we welcomed two new Articles Editors, Phoebe North and Jonathan McCalmont. Neither is a complete stranger to Strange Horizons, Phoebe having worked on the magazine as a Copy Editor for some time, and Jonathan having contributed numerous reviews over the past five years. Both bring great experience and knowledge to the Articles team.

In addition to his role in the Articles Department, Jonathan will also be posting here a couple of times a month, to round up links to the most interesting discussions of sf happening elsewhere online. Also joining the rotation here will be one of the existing Articles staff, Pamela Manasco, who'll be dropping in every so often to cover a YA beat.

Niall Harrison is an independent critic based in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. He is a former editor of Strange Horizons, and his writing has also appeared in The New York Review of Science FictionFoundation: The International Review of Science Fiction, The Los Angeles Review of Books and others. He has been a judge for the Arthur C. Clarke Award, and a Guest of Honor at the 2023 British National Science Fiction Convention. His collection All These Worlds: Reviews and Essays is available from Briardene Books.

The Lightning Road cuts far across the Cosmos, a streak of dazzling gold amidst the star-studded void.
daily you suppress it and ride the shame / like a surfer rides a monster wave,
somersaulting in continuous turns
two wolves lope / behind the Atlantic
The thing is; I don’t set out to write neurodivergent characters. I write people – fictional people who are drawn from the people around me, the way I experience the world, and my understanding of these experiences. Too bad if other people refuse to afford my experiences as being real or relatable.
