The 2008 Strange Horizons Fund Drive!

Welcome to the 2008 Strange Horizons Fund Drive!

Strange Horizons is a little bit unusual, for science fiction magazines. It's not just that we're the longest-running online magazine in the genre, and it's not just that we've built our reputation by showcasing exciting new voices in the field. All of that is true, but one of the things that's really exciting about Strange Horizons is the way we see ourselves as part of a community, part of this larger world of science fiction readers and writers and fans. We depend on the community for our support, and for our very existence. And, speaking to less lofty goals, we also depend on the community for a significant portion of our annual operating budget.

That's where this fund drive comes in. Once a year, we come to you, our friends and readers, and ask for money. We're trying to raise $6000 this month, and we can't do it without your help.

If you donate $25 or more, you can have your very own Strange Horizons member card, with our logo and your name on one side, and featuring exclusive original artwork by Jeremiah Tolbert on the other side. If you donate $50, you can have a lovely Strange Horizons logo mug or t-shirt. For $100, you can have a mug -and- a t-shirt, along with a selection of some of the best small-press zines and chapbooks in speculative fiction. Donors who give us $250 or more get all of those lovely prizes, and they also get our portable tea party package, which now includes a hand-knit tea cozy in your choice of colors. (Details on these member levels can be found on our membership information page.)

Not only that, but everyone who donates, whether a very small amount or a very large one, is entered in a special prize drawing. We have a great set of prizes this year, including a lot of original artwork, magazine subscriptions, and a hand-knit hat monster that will eat your head. (Seriously!) We're also going to be doing special bonus prize drawings during the month, and I'll be posting more information on that later.

The most important thing you get when you donate to Strange Horizons, though, is the knowledge that you're helping us stay in business. Strange Horizons is a work in progress, one long ongoing experiment in online publication models, and we (quite literally) can't do this without your help. So if you like reading Strange Horizons, and if you'd like to be able to continue reading Strange Horizons, consider sending some money our way. It's good for all of us, and it's easy to do! You can donate by PayPal, through Network for Good, or by sending a check or money order to the address listed on our main fund drive page.
