Dion Fortune (real name Violet Mary Firth) was one of the foremost British occultists in early 20th Century Britain. She was a member of the famous Golden Dawn organisation, and of the Theosophical Society. Later she founded her own group, the Society of the Inner Light.

Fortune wrote many books on magic and occultism, and also six fantasy novels: The Secrets of Dr. Taverner, The Demon Lover , The Winged Bull, The Goat-Foot God , The Sea Priestess, and Moon Magic.
